Exam-focused practice
The role of a compliance officer is broad. You monitor conduct, culture and integrity within the organization, you deal with topics such as fraud prevention, sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), and you advise management on managing integrity risks. The Certified Compliance Professional Program is the leading professional program for compliance officers in the Netherlands, now also available in English.
The program is designed for professionals with a bachelor’s level of thinking and working. You gain in-depth insight into how the compliance function operates, how to manage compliance risks and how to handle compliance issues effectively, at financial institutions and other organizations. Ethics plays a central role: which dilemmas will you face, and how do you make sound decisions when the answer is not obvious?
You also develop the competencies that make the difference in practice. You learn how to give impactful advice to senior management and how to win support for your advice across the organization. You learn how to handle resistance and how to recognize and respond to different behavioral styles.
The program starts with a self-study component, which you complete preferably before the first training day, but no later than before the fourth day.
This way, every participant starts with the same solid foundation. The program is developed by and for professionals. The instructors are experts from the field, working at financial institutions, supervisory authorities and universities. They bring extensive experience and connect theory to real-world practice in every session
During the program, you gain insight into the following topics:
- How the compliance function operates and how to position it within the organization.
- Relevant laws and regulations that apply to your organization.
- Influencing conduct and culture to strengthen the integrity of the organization.
- Identifying and managing compliance risks.
- Handling a wide range of compliance issues across different themes.
- Dealing with ethical problems, dilemmas and decision-making.
- Advising with impact and building support for your advice.
- Handling resistance and recognizing different behavioral styles.
For a complete overview of the program components, please download the brochure in the block on the right of this page.
You complete the self-study component with a multiple-choice exam at one of COEL’s examination centers, before the first training day. COEL has examination centers throughout the Netherlands.
During the program, you complete a practical assignment on a topic of your choice. This way, the assignment matches your own learning objectives and adds real value to the organization you work for.
You complete the program with a written exam with open questions. The examination regulations (in Dutch) contain more information about the assessment.

Frequently asked questions
You may have questions, and we are happy to help. Below, you will find the most common questions and answers, so you can quickly and easily find the information most relevant to you.
The work of a compliance officer centers on two closely connected tasks. You monitor corporate culture, employee conduct and integrity within the organization. You also advise management on limiting and managing integrity risks.
The self-study, in which you study the Compliance Professional Handbook, takes approximately 70 hours. This excludes the exam, which you take digitally at one of COEL’s exam locations. You complete both the self-study and the exam preferably before the first training day, so that all participants start the program at the same level of knowledge.
The exam is included with your program. Did you not pass the first time? You can schedule a retake by selecting the retake product in our webshop. If you are unable to take the exam before the first training day, make sure you take it as soon as possible afterwards. Also make sure you are well prepared for the topics covered during the training days.
What do I need to accomplish in order to receive my diploma?
You receive the diploma when you achieve an overall pass for the pre-study exam, the practical assignment and the final exam, and attend all training days. You may miss up to two half-days, with the exception of the ethics sessions, which you must attend in full.
After successfully completing the Certified Compliance Professional Program, you will receive the Compliance Professional diploma and you may use the title Certified Compliance Professional (CCP). As an alumnus, you can also be listed in the CCP register, which shows employers and clients that your expertise meets the professional standard.
